The Norfolk County Sports Hall of Recognition Committee was established in 1994 and a Sports Wall of Recognition was developed at Talbot Gardens Arena in Simcoe in 1996.

Interest in the Wall grew to include the preservation of the sports memorabilia that might otherwise be lost.

A special gallery was developed at Simcoe's Lynnwood Art Centre to preserve and highlight Norfolk County sport accomplishments.  In 2006, the committee decided to re-locate the Sports Hall and Wall of Recognition to the Simcoe Recreation Centre at Norfolk County Fair Grounds.  The display was officially opened to the public in October 2006.  We are always looking for interesting sports related items for our Hall and would appreciate any help in preserving our sports history.

The Norfolk County Hall of Sports Recognition, was commissioned by the committee in 1999, designed by Norfolk County artist and cabinet maker David Beckett.  He developed its unique design with the assistance and talents of local artists Robert Judd, Gary Walker and Mike Barber.

Financial Contributions from the Norfolk Pros Foundation, Simcoe Foundation, and Trillium Foundation helped to develop this project.  Special thanks to Lynnwood Arts Centre for welcoming us to their historic home.

Simcoe's Eva Brook Donly Museum provided, on loan, the skate display on the wall.  While in the gallery, check out the  century-old handcrafted hockey sticks found by Bill Martin in the rafters of a house overlooking Black Creek between Marburg and Port Dover.

Inductions to the Hall are announced each year.  Every two years a gala Celebrity Dinner and Induction Ceremony recognizes new Inductees.  Proceeds support local community activities.

To be eligible for induction, individuals, teams, sponsors, or promoters of any sport played in our area must have contributed to local sports history or have achieved provincial, national or international status.  Induction nomination guidelines are available online.
