Every two years, the Norfolk County Sports Hall of Recognition holds an Induction Dinner to honour the most recent inductees.
The most recent Induction Dinner took place July 13, 2019, at the Delhi Hungarian Hall. The 2019 induction dinner was a special occasion, as it marked the Norfolk County Sports Hall of Recognition’s 25th anniversary.
This year’s honorees were as follows:
2017 Inductees: Sharon Gardner, John Lotus, John Macdonald, the late Richard Wood
2018 Inductees: David Baldock, the late Paul Davidson, David Edmonds, Jim Merrick and Peter Timpf .
These nine outstanding athletes, coaches and builders were recognized for their contribution to the rich sports history of Norfolk County.
To mark the Hall’s 25th anniversary, long-time Sports Hall board member and historian George Pond has written a book that includes the Sports Hall’s history to date, brief profiles of all the individual inductees, lists of teams inducted at the Reunion of Champions events, information about the Parade of Champions, and brief summaries of several of the events the Hall has supported, including Stanley Cup celebrations, the Olympic Torch Relay, Red Kelly Homecoming, and the Brimmer-Demeyere Golf Tournament. Books will be available for purchase locally, including through the branches of the Norfolk County Public Library.
